BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing former party chief Sonia Gandhi of overstepping constitutional boundaries and exerting influence over national decisions during the tenure of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Calling the Congress “assassins of the Constitution,” Dubey claimed that Sonia Gandhi, despite not holding an official government post, played a decisive role in matters of national importance. He cited a 2005 meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where, according to him, she discussed strategic issues such as defence and national security.

“Manmohan Singh ji was the Prime Minister, but who was taking decisions on behalf of the country? Sonia Gandhi ji? This statement from her meeting with Russian President Putin is proof. What part of the Constitution gives her that authority?” Dubey questioned in a post on X.

He also alleged that during the conversation, Sonia Gandhi brought up the killing of 12 Indian schoolchildren by Pakistani terrorists and questioned what action was taken in response. “Were any terrorist hideouts in Pakistan destroyed? On the contrary, over 1,000 terrorists were released from Kashmir’s jails,” he claimed.

Dubey accused the Congress of compromising national security and constitutional principles, stating that the Gandhi family had a pattern of undermining democratic norms.

On June 27, the BJP MP had also posted a letter written by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to then-US President Ronald Reagan, alleging that the Nehru-Gandhi family was subservient to foreign powers and complicit in the Sri Lankan Tamil crisis. “Is Rajiv Gandhi responsible for the Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka?” he asked, alleging that the letter implied collusion with Sri Lanka in suppressing Tamil dissent.

Dubey’s posts are part of a broader BJP narrative challenging the Gandhi family’s role in shaping India’s political landscape, especially during the UPA years. Congress has not yet officially responded to Dubey’s fresh set of allegations.
